Charles Cherington

Managing Partner

 

Charles co-founded Intervale Capital to build on the success of Cherington Capital, a private equity firm focused on investments in middle market energy companies. Prior to founding Cherington Capital, Charles co-founded a smaller fund which also focused on middle market buyouts. Charles has over fifteen years of private equity experience.

Before launching his first fund, Charles spent several years as a vice president at the Vietnam Fund, a British private equity fund. Charles also worked for CS First Boston in New York and Vietnam.

Charles earned an M.B.A., with honors, from the University of Chicago and a B.A. in History from Wesleyan University.

Curtis Huff

Managing Partner

 

Curtis co-founded Intervale Capital to build on the success of a similar investment firm he launched in 2002, Freebird Partners. Curtis has over ten years of operating and financial experience in public oilfield services and in private equity.

Prior to beginning his private equity career in 2002, he spent five years in senior executive positions in the oilfield services sector. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Grant Prideco, a provider of oilfield services with over $1.5 billion in revenue. Prior to Grant Prideco, he served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Weatherford International (NYSE: "WFT") a provider of oilfield services with over $7 billion in revenue. He also serves as a director at Patterson-UTI Energy (NASDAQ: "PTEN") a provider of drilling services with over $2 billion in revenue.

Previously, Curtis was a Partner at Fulbright & Jaworski, where he specialized in M&A and securities law.

Curtis earned a B.A. and a J.D., with honors, from the University of New Mexico, and an L.L.M., from New York University. Curtis is a former chairman of the Texas Business Law Foundation.

Erich Horsley

Principal

 

Erich started his private equity career in 1998, and has focused exclusively on buyouts of middle-market companies. Erich served as a Principal at Watermill Ventures, a private equity group based in Waltham, MA. He also served as a Vice President at a Boston-based private equity firm with $1.4 billion under management. Erich has spent most of his private equity career executing transactions and overseeing growth in industrial and energy-related businesses.

Erich was a Financial Analyst in the Corporate Finance Department of Morgan Stanley in New York and in Frankfurt, Germany from 1994 to 1996.

Erich received his B.A. in Psychology and English, with honors, from Harvard College and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Tuan Tran

Vice President

 

Tuan is a Vice President at Intervale Capital, where he has played a key role in several transactions concentrated in the oilfield services industry, including the acquisitions of Tejas Holdings, Ulterra Drilling Technologies and International Logging, the merger that created Azura Energy Systems, and the preferred equity offering for Pacific Consolidated Industries.

Tuan came to Intervale Capital with a background in investment research and corporate finance. Previously, Tuan was a Research Analyst at Off Wall Street Consulting Group where he initiated coverage on and followed small‐cap investment opportunities. Prior to that, Tuan worked in New York as a M&A banker at Lehman Brothers.

Tuan received his B.A. in Government, with honors, from Harvard College.

Christine Smoragiewicz

Chief Financial Officer

 

Prior to joining Intervale Capital in 2007, Christine served as Controller at J.W. Childs Associates L.P., a private equity firm in Boston that specialized in leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations of middle-market growth companies. Christine began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Assurance and Business Advisory Services, where she supervised the audits of companies in the investment management industry, with a focus on private equity funds and other alternative investment vehicles.

Christine is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.S. in Business Administration, with honors, from Georgetown University.

Kevin Daury

Accounting Manager

 

Prior to joining Intervale Capital, Kevin served as an audit manager in the Boston office of KPMG LLP. He managed the audits of numerous entities within the investment management industry, and was also an instructor at some of the firm’s national training events.

Kevin is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the AICPA and MSCPA. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Babson College, and a M.S. in Accounting, magna cum laude, from Babson’s Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business.

Stephen Cherington

Research Associate

 

Steve has over seven years of experience in operations and back office management in the financial services sector. Before joining Intervale Capital, Steve was a research associate at Cherington Capital. He started his career as a Section Manager at MFS Investment Management, a mutual fund company with over $200 billion under management, where he oversaw a group that serviced high-net-worth individuals, brokers and institutions.

Steve received a B.A. in Economics from Wheaton College (MA) and an M.B.A, with honors, from Kent Business School in Canterbury, England.

Sam Gurwitz

Associate

 

Sam joined Intervale Capital in 2009 having previously worked as an investment banking analyst in Merrill Lynch’s Global Energy & Power Group. At Merrill Lynch, Sam worked on a variety of capital markets and advisory transactions. He was actively involved in the IPO of American Water Works (NYSE: AWK), the largest publicly traded water utility in the United States.

Sam graduated cum laude with departmental honors from Northwestern University. He received a dual degree in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences (“MMSS”) and Economics.

David Cao

Associate

 

David joined Intervale Capital in 2009 having previously worked as an Associate at Stone Tower Capital. Prior to Stone Tower, David was an investment banking analyst at Lehman Brothers in their Global Financial Sponsors group. During his time at Lehman, David worked on a variety of leveraged buyouts and mergers and acquisitions involving various financial sponsor backed companies. David received his B.A. in Economics, with honors, from Dartmouth College.
